ARMY, a group of ecstatic supporters, gathered outside the White House to watch the press conference on their phones. By Tuesday evening, a YouTube stream of the press conference had racked up over 1.8 million views.

Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, attacks on Asian American communities increased. According to Stop AAPI Hate, they documented over 9,000 anti-Asian hate from March 19, 2020, to June 30, 2021.
Following the shooting at an Atlanta spa last year that resulted in the deaths of eight people, including six Asian women, BTS released an emotional message on its official Twitter account in both Korean and English addressing Asian hatred, brutality, and racial prejudice against all kinds.
The group members also referenced their own encounters as victims of anti-Asian racism in the statement, indicating that this was a topic close to their hearts.
