MENTAL HEALTH
Despite the prevalence of ADHD, there is still a lot that researchers don’t know about the cause of ADHD. It is believed that it has neurological origins. Genetics may also play a role in the development of ADHD. Research shows that dopamine reduction is a factor in ADHD.
Dopamine is a chemical that the brain uses to send messages between nerve cells and affects how we feel pleasure, emotional responses, and movements.
Another research suggests a structural difference in the brain and indicates that those with ADHD have less gray matter volume. Gray matter can help with self-control, decision-making, muscle control, and speech. Researchers are still examining the potential causes of ADHD.
